Remember when cable cost $18 a month and there were no commercials? - JoeM - 04-02-2007 The amount of commercials on cable channels these days is unbearable. Sales knucklehead at Comcast can't figure out why I refuse to upgrade from basic garbage package to more expensive, digital garbage package. When I tell him programming stinks and commercials are out of control, he blames the networks, not good ol' Comcast. Poor Comcast only raises rates because nasty networks are charging good ol' Comcast more and more and good ol' Comcast is only trying to offer me more and better choices. When I offer to sell sales knucklehead a fine ol' bridge in Brooklyn, he politely declines my offer. Go figure? Maybe time for Tivo? Re: Remember when cable cost $18 a month and there were no commercials? - troywellbuilt - 04-02-2007 I have Replay TV (similar to Tivo) and HATE watching live TV. Commercials are out of control, but Replay TV takes care of that. Get a Tivo (or better yet, a Replay TV with commercial advance on ebay)...you're really buying your precious time back from the advertisers. Re: Remember when cable cost $18 a month and there were no commercials? - Lux Interior - 04-02-2007 I can remember when HBO went off the air at night. Between movies they would show video of someone bicycling through a park (helmet cam view) set to classical music. Re: Remember when cable cost $18 a month and there were no commercials? - BigGuynRusty - 04-02-2007 No, and I can remember when there was only three OTA channels. $18 in 1808 was a lot more money then it is now. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered--well, the networks weren't happy with being pigs, they went the hog route and ReplayTV and the off switch are my ways of slaughtering them. Re: Remember when cable cost $18 a month and there were no commercials? - BigGuynRusty - 04-02-2007 EyeTV+Four Plextors+EyeHome(s) = Nirvana! BGnR Re: Remember when cable cost $18 a month and there were no commercials? - will2000 - 04-02-2007 I only pay $15/mo for Comcast limited. Re: Remember when cable cost $18 a month and there were no commercials? - AlphaDog - 04-02-2007 You look back on $18 a month?! I am sooooo old that I can remember when cable was $4.99 a month, with an additional $1 for each premium channel. Of course I think there were only two. ![]() My cable bill for digital expanded basic is now $60 a month. Comcast is the only cable provider. I grumble each month when I see that charge, but I haven't decided exactly what, if anything, I'm going to do about it. I could drop the digital, but they're not charging much for that; it's the basic rate that's gone so high. A while back, somebody posted a link to a site that would let you test your address for antenna reception. I can forget that option. My house sits at the base of a fairly large hill, and on top of that hill are extremely tall fir trees. I could hear laughter in the background when I got the results. I'm open for suggestions, by the way. But I don't want to pay a year's wages in start up costs. As with the others, my ReplayTV takes all the commercials out. |
