Advice Needed: Presentation Remote - eburgian - 04-02-2007

I'm looking for an inexpensive remote for controling PPT presentations. A laser pointer would be a real plus.

There are many on the market, but I don't know where to start. Brands to avoid?

Comfortable to hold and reliability are certainly important.

Long range isn't necessary. Compact size would be handy, but again not necessary.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I use the bluetooth connectivity on my mobile phone and powerbook with a great little app called Salling Clicker. I love it. One less gadget to carry, power, find, etc.

Cheers,

Shane

If it is on a Mac--an Apple Bluetooth mac will work

Hmm, I can't always be sure that I'll be presenting from a Mac or that bluetooth will be available. I probably need to go with usb.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

I have used the Interlink VP4150 RemotePoint Navigator for the past year or so and it is really sweet. It is RF versus IR, so no direct line-of-sight issues. It's simple, works well with Keynote/PowerPoint, has a built in laser pointer and is nice looking to boot. About $75.

I am in China currently teaching and I picked up a Keyspan presentation mouse before I left because of its small size and built in pointer. very small, easy to use, RF, USB, and only about $60 at CompUSA. Don't have the package right now but model is TSAM-001.

OK, so it looks like $50 - $80 is the going range.

Some seem to have a mouse button, in addition to forward, next, and laser. Some also seem to have a mute, but I suspect they require software to be installed. I even found one that switched presentation modes, but I don't see the point.

I'm liking the idea of just plug and play, cross platform, RF.

Would the mouse button be necessary to activate hyperlinks in a PPT presentation?

I guess for that I could walk over to the keyboard...
