Adobe CS3 Upgrades - what the hell do I qualify for? - Zoidberg - 04-03-2007 Okay, here's what I own and have full license for: * Adobe InDesign CS2 * Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional * Adobe Illustrator 10.0.3 * Adobe Photoshop 7 I'm looking at the various upgrade paths and I'm still a bit confused as to what I'll qualify for -- Acrobat Pro is the latest version, as is InDesign, but I know Illustrator and Photoshop are pretty long in the tooth. All I really *need* is InDesign CS3, but if I can get the upgrades for Illustrator and Photoshop (which I rarely use, but come in handy sometimes) as part of a nice upgrade price, that'd be good. Bottom line is I think the only "cheap" upgrade I qualify for is for InDesign CS3 by itself. Opinion? Re: Adobe CS3 Upgrades - what the hell do I qualify for? - JoeM - 04-03-2007 Someone posted this the other day which I thought was helpful: http://www.macrumors.com/2007/03/27/adobe-creative-suite-3-announced/ I think the better choices you have include: InDesign CS2 to Design Standard, Premium or ID3 alone or get an upgrade to CS2.3 and shoot for the free upgrade to CS3 like a couple of us have done. Re: Adobe CS3 Upgrades - what the hell do I qualify for? - papercup - 04-03-2007 It looks like you are in the "à la carte" category since you don't have a CS Suite, the cheapest ID3 is 199.00 for you. I believe you need CS1 to try the CS2/2.3 loophole people are using to get CS3 on the cheap. Or you can upgrade your PS7 to Creative Suite 3 Design Standard for 899.00 I think. The Adobe website is a mess, and the Adobe support seems to be giving conflicting info/deals. Re: Adobe CS3 Upgrades - what the hell do I qualify for? - JoeM - 04-03-2007 He can use PS7 to get to CS 2.3 for $700+ but it has to be before CS3 ships. Re: Adobe CS3 Upgrades - what the hell do I qualify for? - papercup - 04-03-2007 Here is a lead programer at Adobe sharing upgrade info: http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2005/09/speaking_plainl_1.html Edit: I find it funny that his blog site doesn't render correctly in Safari or Firefox, and he is a Mac guy... Edit 2: Oops, that is an OOOOLD article... Re: Adobe CS3 Upgrades - what the hell do I qualify for? - vision63 - 04-03-2007 They have engineered a damned if you do and damned if you don't purchase and/or upgrade fiasco. They've collected so much key software, putting the paying customer purposefully in a difficult situation. They're kinda like that criminal pet food company. Too many critical applications from one corporation. Re: Adobe CS3 Upgrades - what the hell do I qualify for? - Zoidberg - 04-03-2007 I had a friend once that said you weren't buying software, you were joining an expensive club; one that requires (occasionally annual) high fees to stay a current member. Re: Adobe CS3 Upgrades - what the hell do I qualify for? - threeprong - 04-03-2007 I just bought two CS2==>CS2.3 upgrades for $159 each. Adobe rep says that when Adobe launches CS3 ( releases, and is in stores) I call them up and request my CS3 upgrade for free. Now my entrepreneurial spirit wonders if I can buy10 CS2=> CS2.3 upgrades and also get the CS3 upgrade as well? I only own 2 versions of CS2, so could I buy extra upgrades packages and get the CS3 collection without owning 10 copies of CS2? Hey, I'm just asking. 3P Re: Adobe CS3 Upgrades - what the hell do I qualify for? - Zoidberg - 04-03-2007 All I have from CS2 is InDesign; I never got the full CS2 pack. Re: Adobe CS3 Upgrades - what the hell do I qualify for? - AllGold - 04-03-2007 There's a lot of pain in that upgrade matrix. All the upgrades should include an extra large bottle of aspirin you'll need after trying to figure it all out. |
