iBook doesn't sleep on close - mattkime - 04-15-2007 My iBook doesn't automagically go to sleep when closed. Its a 700Mhz G3. What part would cause that problem? Re: iBook doesn't sleep on close - Carnos Jax - 04-15-2007 One possibility may be what was wrong w/mine. Apparently, there's a magnet in the base (or something like that) that came loose or mispositioned. As a result, the iBook can no longer tell it's been closed. More info and diagnostic help (thanks to others on this forum) can be found in the following thread: http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/197620 Re: iBook doesn't sleep on close - elmo3 - 04-15-2007 Restart it. If that doesn't work, can you reset the power management system? Apple's support site talks to this and the process by which you address it, step by step. Re: iBook doesn't sleep on close - RAMd®d - 04-15-2007 Also there is the reed switch which corresponds with the magnet. It can fail, too. Re: iBook doesn't sleep on close - chas_m - 04-15-2007 IME, Carnos Jax is probably on target. This is a WAY too easy part to dislodge, and sadly NOT an easy fix like you'd think. Re: iBook doesn't sleep on close - mattkime - 04-16-2007 yeah, its probably the magnet. i think i managed to remove it accidentally when i upgraded the hard drive. i had no idea where it came from so i didn't bother putting it back. anyone know exactly where it goes? i'll have to look it up in the take apart docs. Ya know, it's people like you who give repair techs dark thoughts. "My computer won't go to sleep. Any ideas" at the end FINALLY turns into "yeah, I had the whole thing apart, couldn't identify all the pieces so I didn't put them all back, and the problem happened afterward" Do you THINK you could have MENTIONED this at the beginning? The first question one should always ask is: what changed since the last time it behaved correctly? I bet your answer would have been, "Nothing! I swear! It JUST HAPPENED!" Re: iBook doesn't sleep on close - mattkime - 04-16-2007 elmo, if my methods are so burdensome for you to deal with then simply don't respond to my threads. if i knew the part that was responsible for the problem then i wouldn't have posted at all. further, the problem part isn't even identified in the apple service docs. i've told you to go fu.ck yourself before. did you ever get around to that? E3 and I hardly see eye to eye but he is spot on, you could have at least mentioned the "part" that "fell out". The reason the "part" isn't listed in the Apple Service documentation is because it is a part that broke off from another part, it is listed as a separate part, but in a different manual. I am almost positive it is in the manual for the Bezel assembly, which is not a service document because the service department does not assemble the bezel, that is probably done in China. BGnR Re: iBook doesn't sleep on close - Carnos Jax - 04-16-2007 Go easy on him guys. He just didn't think it was a relevant piece of information. More experienced trouble shooters may have known to give out 'all info' (regardless of how relevant ti may seem), but we're not all the same in that regard. |
