Compare what they charge and what you get for your money with the plans offered by Dreamhost or Hostrocket or various other companies.

I've yet to see a company that offers Mac-based service that also offers competitive prices. Is their strategy based on the idea that anyone who spends more on a computer will also want to spend more to get a site hosted? Or what?

What does mac-based hosting do that you need?

I hope those are their 2001 hosting prices/plans. A 250 MB web space? That's quite stingy... My Dreamhost account grows by 4x that much every week. It may not be the most reliable, but compared to plans like these...

Supply and demand.

There is less supply, plus what you said--if you spent more on the Mac, then you'll spend more on the hosting.

As the idiots in the car world say, "If you can afford the car, you shouldn't bitch about the price of the gas."

what does mac based hosting do better than another host?

hostrocket uses linux

do the mac hosts use macs and just run linux on them?

if so, i fail to see the diff...

the reason why mac based hosts seems wanky is because there is no reason to host on macs.

web hosting is typically unix. there are plenty of mac tools to connect to unix machines.

Shocker Group is run by a Mac-fanatic.... check them out. Negotiate, too.

Looks like WeHostMacs hasn't updated their website since 2005 at the latest. Their "news" page references stories from 2000. I remember visiting the site years and years ago.

I personally have no reason to use a Mac-based host. I happened across the one posted above at MacUpdate (banner ad), and I clicked on it to see if pricing was even a little bit competitive, compared to the pricing I've come across from other companies offering that kind of service.
