the new AT & T is on - graylocks - 05-02-2007 this morning when i turned on my cell phone, for the first time it read "A T & T." now, i did put in a new sim card yesterday and maybe that had something to do with it but i had used the phone in the later part of the evening and it was still saying Cingular at that point. guess my next bill will say AT & T also. all things change. and all remain the same. Re: the new AT & T is on - MacMagus - 05-02-2007 They can update the operator logo on most phones over the network. They haven't done mine (yet). Re: the new AT & T is on - JoeBob - 05-02-2007 Mine still says Cingular (as of a few minutes ago) I will be switching numbers soon, wonder if they will get me then. Re: the new AT & T is on - Seacrest - 05-02-2007 I still pay the old AT&T Wireless rate plan that I got before Cingular bought ATTW. I just retired my old Nokia that had the AT&T logo printed on it, but with Cingular on screen. Now I have an unlocked phone, but the screen still says Cingular. Maybe it's an East-West thang. Re: the new AT & T is on - Robert M - 05-02-2007 Sea, I'm in the same situation, though not for long. I have an old AT&T Wireless Nokia 3620 GSM phone and plan that I'm using with the Cingular GSM service. The phone is unlocked and shows Cingular. Although I dislike Cingular, my company recently setup a business foundation whathaveyou with them and we're now eligible for sweatheart deals for service. It's too bad I'm not overly thrilled with any of the phones Cingular offers right now. All the ones I like are European and Asian models. Grrrr! I'm going to settle for a Sony Ericcson W810i and use it to buy me enough time to save up for a better phone in the future. The Sony is a great phone, or so I've been led to believe but I like Nokias. Robert Re: the new AT & T is on - Silencio - 05-02-2007 Mine still says Cingular. Funny, it still says AT&T Wireless when I power it off and on since I bought it before Cingular bought them out. Oh, I guess I could have saved much typing and said I'm in the same boat as Seacrest. Robert M: I have to say I like Cingular's phone offerings much more than Verizon or Sprint's, and I've been pleased with my Sony Ericsson T616 which is going on three years old now. I've been considering getting a W810i myself as a stopgap until the iPhone hits Rev B or drops a couple hundred in price or whatever. Re: the new AT & T is on - Robert M - 05-02-2007 Silencio, I have very specific requirements for phones. These are the basics: it must be a candybar, have a camera that is at the minimum 1 or more megapixels, bluetooth, speakerphone and expandible storage. Unfortunately, the number of phones offered by any of the carriers that meet the basics are few. At this point, most of the models that meet my minimum specs are European or Asian, i.e. Nokia N73. Cingular used to sell the Nokia 6682 which was perfect but no longer carries it. I should've grabbed it while I had a chance to get it for $120.00 as an unlocked model. Unfortunately, Safari froze taking the browsing history with it and I've never been able to find the site again. Nobody could match that price at all. I may tell Cingular I want the service and such through my business and just have them send me a chip. I'll drop that into my existing phone and keep saving my money and eventually purchase an N73 or similar. Still, though, the W10i meets my specs. If i can get a good price on it, it might be worth grabbing, especially since it has an excellent camera. (I use the camera in my phone all the time) Robert Re: the new AT & T is on - threeprong - 05-02-2007 I'm still raising the bar. Samsung SGH d807. candybar but a slider. 1.3 mp camera. takes a micro sd. paid $0.01 for it on Amazon - didn't mind extending my contract for another 2 years. Re: the new AT & T is on - Robert M - 05-02-2007 Gray, Nopes. I looked at the d807 and deemed it unacceptable due to design. It's a slider and that means it'd last about a week before breaking. I won't go near sliders, flips, twists or whathaveyou. It's pure candybar or nothing for me. The d807 in particular felt surpringly fragile, more so than some of the otehr sliders I saw and deemed unacceptable. Robert |
