Setting up to receive faxes? - Don Kiyoti - 05-02-2007 A job I'm working on would go easier if I could receive faxes to my home office. I have one phone line and DSL (connected from my telephone wall jack to my ethernet port). My surge protector has two phone OUT ports and one phone IN port. What do I need to do to set up for receiving faxes? I've done the steps in System Prefs -> Print/Fax. Re: Setting up to receive faxes? - jdc - 05-02-2007 you need a splitter. your DSL install should have come with one, mine came with 2 plug the phone cable into the wall and the other end into your mac... have you thought about something like efax? get faxes through your email... handy Re: Setting up to receive faxes? - Don Kiyoti - 05-02-2007 [quote jdc]you need a splitter. your DSL install should have come with one, mine came with 2 plug the phone cable into the wall and the other end into your mac... have you thought about something like efax? get faxes through your email... handy I'll see if I have a splitter. So from the wall cable: attach the splitter, then one end into the "wall" port on my DSL modem, and the other end to the internal modem port on my Mac? Re: Setting up to receive faxes? - will2000 - 05-02-2007 Get eFax. I've been very happy with it. Re: Setting up to receive faxes? - Don Kiyoti - 05-02-2007 [quote will2000]Get eFax. I've been very happy with it. I probably will do that. I think their free service will be adequate for me. I just like the idea of utilizing the built-in capabilities of my Mac! Re: Setting up to receive faxes? - Blurb - 05-02-2007 I use the fax capabilities on my imac frequently. It's there and it's free and it works. I even posted here several months ago after replacing my G4 FP imac with a refurb'd C2D 20" imac about missing the modem port on my new imac, and having to buy a USB modem from apple. But your next to last post confused me. You should already have a DSL splitter/filter in use if you are already using both the DSL and your landline phone. If your phone is connected to the outgoing phone line from the splitter, and it is next to your computer, then use the surge strip phone splitter on the line BEFORE the phone. That splits it to the landline phone and also to your mac. Then just set up to receive/send faxes via system prefs. Re: Setting up to receive faxes? - Don Kiyoti - 05-03-2007 Blurb, The line from the wall jack goes to the DSL modem in port. The phone is connected to the DSL modem out port. That's where my line filter is. This must be an old-fashioned filter only as it doesn have two ports. I guess I want to replace that filter with a filter/splitter. Thanks for the tip. |
