Uh oh, having trouble with the TFTP flashing procedure for the Buffalo... - PeterB - 05-02-2007 Following the instructions here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation#TFTP_Flashing_Buffalo_Routers_under_Linux.2C_OS_X.2C_or_other_Unix-like_OS ... it seems to send a number of packets to the router, but then gives a timeout error message... Re: Uh oh, having trouble with the TFTP flashing procedure for the Buffalo... - mattkime - 05-02-2007 what are you getting from the terminal? which model buffalo? most likely you're doing everything right but just need to tweak the timing. Re: Uh oh, having trouble with the TFTP flashing procedure for the Buffalo... - PeterB - 05-02-2007 The same Buffalo that people got here awhile back for $25... WHR-G54S Here's what I have in the terminal: tftp> binary tftp> trace Packet tracing on. tftp> rexmt 1 tftp> connect 192.168.11.1 tftp> put dd-wrt.v23_mini_generic.bin sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ sent WRQ Transfer timed out. Re: Uh oh, having trouble with the TFTP flashing procedure for the Buffalo... - mattkime - 05-02-2007 do you have your mac set to an ip address of 192.168.1.2? you might also try pausing for a bit before submitting the command. i believe when i did the upgrade i opened another terminal window and made sure i could ping the router before issuing the tftp command. Re: Uh oh, having trouble with the TFTP flashing procedure for the Buffalo... - GGD - 05-02-2007 I did this about a week ago, and found that the directions are somewhat wrong when the router has the original Buffalo firmware in it. The directions say that you should power the router up with the reset button pressed and then release it and start the TFTP put command. I think that might be the case if the DD-WRT firmware is already in the router, but with the Buffalo firmware, I think I finally got it to work by pressing the reset AFTER powerup, and starting the put command just after releasing reset. Also, if you want to restore the Buffalo firmware, don't use the german version on the DD-WRT site, use the English 1.20 version that's there instead, and then use that to flash the current english version from the buffalo site. With the german version, I couldn't get it to reload the english version, or maybe it reloaded, but was still displaying everything in german, or maybe I was just guessing wrong at what firmware update in german might look like. Re: Uh oh, having trouble with the TFTP flashing procedure for the Buffalo... - GGD - 05-02-2007 [quote mattkime]do you have your mac set to an ip address of 192.168.1.2? you might also try pausing for a bit before submitting the command. i believe when i did the upgrade i opened another terminal window and made sure i could ping the router before issuing the tftp command. With the Buffalo FW, the router is at 192.168.11.1, so you want your Mac IP to be 192.168.11.xxx, not 192.168.1.2 (that's for when the DD-WRT firmware is loaded). I did it from a dedicated old mac with a direct ethernet connection to the router and no other connection to the LAN/WAN/WIFI, and let the router's DHCP give me an IP address in the right subnet. Re: Uh oh, having trouble with the TFTP flashing procedure for the Buffalo... - jdc - 05-02-2007 why are you doing this and should i be doing it to my buffalo? im thinkin -- if it aint broke, then dont fix it? The Quality of Service features are great if you use VoIP or fire sharing apps. It also adds VPN features. Oh, the BIG one - boost the strength of your wireless signal. After using that feature, I was able to replace two routers with one. There are a ton of other features as well. Still, if you're happy with your router as it is then you might be best leaving it alone. |
