It may be broken for any number of reasons; not just the fire.
Offer $200. That would be worth a gamble, but not $500.
No telling how old it is and what's wrong with it.

Get the serial number and check the purchase date by seeing how much warranty is left.
If that checks out, the story is probably legit.
Confirm that there was no water damage.
Then call the closest Apple Store and talk to a genius to see what they think of a smoke-damaged iMac. It might merely need a really thorough cleaning with electronics part cleaner.
Try calling someone that specializes in smoke damage, like yoour local Service Master. They did wonders for a friend that had water damage from an apartment over hers.
It's probably worth the flier. I'd buy it if it was local.

The plastic of the screen may be damaged. I'd skip it.

No, I was slated for game 6 travel but I had a prior commitment. I don;t think it looks good for the Jazz tonight. The Warriors are just too tough at home.

No, I was slated for game 6 travel but I had a prior commitment. I don;t think it looks good for the Jazz tonight. The Warriors are just too tough at home.
They were too tough in Utah too but they choked at the end. Love Carlos Boozer and as a long time Lakers fan, Derrick Fisher.

GS is a very pesky team and I mean that in a good way. They just don't die and for some reason the 3 always falls for them.
