I must be jinxed:( My new MacPro is having the same problems that I had with my G5 plus more… - GeneL - 05-15-2007

I was having multiple problems with my G5, such as odd mouse click issues and ports not working. On the G5 that led to motherboard replacement and subsequent FW port replacements and finally the replacement of the G5 with this MacPro.

I started having the same mouse click problems with the MacPro, so I figured that it might be either the Logitech MX1000 mouse that I'm using or the Logitech software.

To trouble shoot I completely trashed every single Logitech related file and restarted using only the Apple Keyboard and Mouse Preference Panel. Still no fix.

Next I disconnected the MX1000 and started using the bluetooth Mighty Mouse that came with the computer. Still no fix.

Last night I tried to sync my Treo 700P with my Entourage calendar and it couldn't connect. Previously, I had no problem with this. Now the connection couldn't be made, either through the USB hub where it was normally connected or through any of the USB ports on the computer.

I'm presently on the phone with AppleCare and at the instructions of the Apple tech, I've zapped the PRAM, disconnected "everything" that was plugged into the computer including AC and plugged everything back in, one at a time, to check for the problem in case it was due to a peripheral.

I couldn't tell if the mouse problem was still there, but I immediately noticed that one of the two ethernet ports wasn't working when I tried to get online. Fortunately, the other port was active.

I'm waiting to hear if they'll send someone to my home to see what to do next.

If you don't have a UPS with AVR, get one. It may not solve your problems, but it's something you should have anyway.

Dirty power can cause big problems.

I'm using a Belkin UPS. My old one died and Belkin replaced it with a brand new current model, not that long ago

Does it have AVR?

Also, have you tried a wired mouse? Are you using a KVM?

As M A V I C mentioned, dirty power can mess up your stuff.

I'd check to see if that Logitech driver is PPC only; I'm sure the Entourage conduit is.

Don't know about the mouse issue, but I had great difficulty getting Palm devices to work with the Entourage conduit even on its native platform -- I imagine it might well nigh be impossible to get it to work properly on the Intel platform.

I'm using a "large" UPS (I'm not sure of the rating, but I think it's 1500), so I don't think that dirty power is the issue.

BTW, the product specialist just explained that only one of the ethernet ports is turned on by default, so that's no longer an issue.

I have to continue using the bluetooth mouse for a while to see if the mouse click problem appears again, since it was always intermittent and may have been fixed by the troubleshooting.

As for the phone, I'm going to take it to Sprint to have its connector tested.

That's about it for now.

That's a good point too.

FWIW, I dropped the Logitech driver years ago. Not sure if it has become better. I use USB Overdrive and it's a very feature-filled and stable option. At least the last time I looked, it offered more features than Logitech's drivers... of course, it's not free. Just nagware.

Edit: Actually, another good step would be to create a new user and see if that user has the same issues.

Thanks MAVIC.

I downloaded USB Overdrive and will give it a try.

Did you "migrate" from the G5 to the Pro or did you start fresh. Migration always seems to bring over the little issues for me.
