Refusing Buy.com shipment per their suggestion? - imagenious - 05-21-2007 I ordered a wireless card from Buy.com several days ago and shortly after ordering, I found that the card would not fit system for which it was ordered. I tried to change/cancel order but Buy.com said it was already in "shipment process". They said: --------------- We apologize for any inconvenience and offer you three options when your order arrives: - You may keep the product. - You may refuse shipment for a full refund, in which case the carrier will return the product to us at our cost. - If you are unable to refuse the package, you may return the product for a refund. In this case you might not be automatically credited for your shipping costs depending on the condition of the package or when you requested cancellation, etc. Simply request a Return Merchandise Authorization Number (RMA#) online at https://secure.buy.com/corp/support/login.asp For more information on our returns procedures: https://secure.buy.com/corp/support/returns --------------- Order should arrive today and I already have it established with postman to refuse shipment - is that course of action going to be OK? Anybody ever done this? Would refusing shipment leave a possible issue "open" as to whether or not I receive credit for item being returned to Buy.com? Thanks for any info offered. Re: Refusing Buy.com shipment per their suggestion? - wurm - 05-21-2007 Refusing the shipment would be the way I'd have preferred even if it weren't suggested. The fact that it is one of their options would make it a no-brainer for me. Re: Refusing Buy.com shipment per their suggestion? - jesse - 05-21-2007 I've done this before, accidentally ordered 4 of the same item, refused 3 of them and received a full refund. I think this is standard procedure for buy.com. jesse Re: Refusing Buy.com shipment per their suggestion? - imagenious - 05-21-2007 Thanks for the info...it's a "refuse shipment" for me. The advice is very much appreciated. Re: Refusing Buy.com shipment per their suggestion? - RAMd®d - 05-21-2007 Just stay on high alert. Unless it's a high value item, many Buy.com shipments don't require a signature and the driver will just leave it on the porch, usually without knocking. Re: Refusing Buy.com shipment per their suggestion? - imagenious - 05-21-2007 Thanks everybody - shipment is via the UPS - Post Office; some deal I didn't know about where UPS originates shipment by picking up from shipper, then, somewhere along the line transfers it to USPS for final delivery. I've already had the postman tuned in for a couple of days now and he's watching for it for me - leaving note on mailbox whether or not it happens that day. Think today's the day... we'll see. Thanks to all for advice and help. Re: Refusing Buy.com shipment per their suggestion? - RAMd®d - 05-21-2007 You're in luck! With UPS, DHL, and FedEx deliveries, once it's on the porch, it's delivered and you have to get a free RMA or use your dime to get the package back. All of the above also use the USPS in what they call "The last mile". Since the PO delivers door to door already, it's often cheaper for the Unholy Trinity to get it to the city, and pay the USPS to take it to the door. What this means for you is that you can refuse the delivery even after the carrier has left it. Just draw a slash across the address and take the *unopened* package back to the PO, or toss it in the mail, and it goes back FREE. If you want any extra service, you have to pay the full freight. If it's sent to you with Delivery Confirmation, that might make things a little difficult, but I've done it twice, no worries. Re: Refusing Buy.com shipment per their suggestion? - imagenious - 05-22-2007 All is handled - mailman "refused delivery" for me and left me note to that effect. Package should be enroute back to Buy.com and when they acknowledge receipt and issue credit I will order appropriate piece from them, as they have it for good price. Thanks to all for all help. |
