WiFi without a wireless card - D-Rod - 05-21-2007

I just ran across this item in a catalog I get and thought you guys might like to see it. I don't personally need it and it seems a little expensive but I never knew such a device existed.

Boosts WiFi Range Up To 3 Times further!

Boost the range of your WiFi network more than one quarter mile line of sight! This up to 20 dBm High-Gain range booster omni-directional antenna is probably the best home, mobile or RV WiFi antenna made. Simply install the easy software and plug the cable into your USB port on your laptop or computer and you're ready to go. The antenna has suction cups that make it easy to place for the best reception.

This is an all in one solution. Your computer does not need to have an internal WiFi card or antenna! In our test location, we only found two wireless connections with the typical 5 db antenna found on a standard router. With the Super USB WiFi Antenna we received six or seven. You can get much more distance if you want to put an additional WiFi Antenna on your router. 802.11b/g. Up to 54 Mbps. WPA and WEP encryption compatible. Weight: 1.5 oz. Size: 1" W x 8.7" H x 0.4" D. C. Crane has a pretty good rep in many things. (cue BG)

If you had no other choice, this would be worth a try.

I have not heard of them selling this. They should buy some banner ad space.

Now that I am thinking about it, it is probably like an overgrown and separated USB WiFi dongle. It just looked and seemed so different I didn't associate it. :-)

It's just another dongle.
