Re: The Price Barrier Has Been Broken! 500GB SATA drive for under $100 shipped! - Racer X - 05-21-2007 you can say the same about every manufacturer of hard drives in the past 10 years. I lost 2 Maxtor 250GB FW drives after less than one yr.... does that count? Re: The Price Barrier Has Been Broken! 500GB SATA drive for under $100 shipped! - GeneL - 05-21-2007 So far I've never had a problem with a Maxtor Drive. (knock wood!) Re: The Price Barrier Has Been Broken! 500GB SATA drive for under $100 shipped! - weapon - 05-21-2007 Yes. All of my maxtor drives failed in under 2 years. Some of my seagates are still running after 7 years. the others vary from 3 to 6 months in age. All running strong. Just a friendly warning. When I lost an 80gb I was angry, but I recovered the materials by using the freeze method. I could never have done this with a 500GB drive. Seagate did buy maxtor so the quality might improve but I have a feeling that they are trying to clear out inventory before making any strides towards quality Re: The Price Barrier Has Been Broken! 500GB SATA drive for under $100 shipped! - GeneL - 05-21-2007 Am I the only one who's had a good experience with Maxtor? Re: The Price Barrier Has Been Broken! 500GB SATA drive for under $100 shipped! - RAMd®d - 05-21-2007 I've been happy with my Maxies. Never lost one. I lost two five-year warrantied Seagates at one year. Let's hope the others make it to at least five years. Re: The Price Barrier Has Been Broken! 500GB SATA drive for under $100 shipped! - Silencio - 05-22-2007 The only drives I've lost so far were IBM/Hitachis, though I had one of those ultra-cheap 120GB 2.5" Western Digitals start to act up on me. I too took a long holiday from Maxtor, but their higher-capacity SATA drives from the past three years have been just fine for me, and they work in my Rev 1 PowerMac G5 without any guesswork or drama, unlike most Seagates and Western Digitals. |
