So far there seems to be a barrier at 2.

Is there way to force osx to allocate more ram and processor usage to a specific program?

It seems like the 2GB is allotted to a specific type of data--that's a guess based on the fact that you can also specify (an additional) 2GB for stills cache (under the "memory and cache" tab in prefs).
