Anyone have any experience with free utility to do a thorough job of destroying the data on a Windows 98(?) machine before reinstalling the system and donating it?

I actually gave away one a few months ago (freecycle) and decided it was less trouble
just to pull the drive and give it away as "working but no HD"

Hmmm...I do have a USB2 universal drive adapter thingy that I got from Larry and the gang - I suppose that just might do the trick with the least amount of fuss.
Thanks for the other suggestions - I'm sure one will work; if not, I'll get out the 3 lb. sledge and have some fun ;-)

I install Linux on them. Granted, if some REALLY wanted to recover the data they could but they would have to spend WAY more time and money than it would be worth for any data that would be on a Windows 98 machine.
