I've pushed it some before, but not quite like this. I'm curious if my MBP 2.33GHz would be faster. Disk activity is minimal. I'm having to create a ~160" wide 150dpi banner. This dual 2.7 G5 is crawling...

The answer is a resounding NO.
Earlier this month i worked on a graphic 150 inches wide x 96 inches tall at 133 dpi. Saved it was 1.43gb. And my 2.66 MacPro with 5.5 gb of ram was rendered unto its knees. I think I heard it crying.

Yeah, I just got a warning that TIFF's can't be bigger than 4GB. Didn't know that.
Now the drives are getting pushed.

Using the Photoshop file format PSB ( B not D) may help.. a little.

be interested in trying that on my new 24" imac, 4 gigs ram
think photoshop still only uses max 2 gigs of system memory?
combining layers into sets will also help?

I have never been able to get the system to use more than 3GB of RAM. Photoshop is currently using 2.36GB.
This image only has one layer in PS. Apparently InDesign can't use TIFFs larger than 2GB.

I'm sure someone at Adobe was thinking "C'mon. Really. Who would ever try to place a file into InDesign bigger than 2 gigs??? Seriously. Never happen."

150dpi? For a thirteen foot banner, I would have thought you could go at least a little lower than that. That's one heck of a lot of pixels to push. Good luck.
