Validating MacBook serial number - norse - 10-24-2007

I vaguely remember a way to validate Apple serial numbers. I found a used MacBook for sale and want to make sure it's legit. How do I do that?

what exactly is it you need to make sure it is "legit"

that the unit is not a fake? I never heard of fake Apple laptops. If the unit was not stolen? well, i am not sure if Apple keep track of that. ask the sellef for proof of purchase (receipt or invoice). If the unit is still under warranty or AppleCare? see the support page.

I used this tutorial to check the warranty status of a Macbook Pro I recently bought on ebay:
I would assume if it's under warranty, it cant be fake.
