OT: SPACE: 2099 - Zoidberg - 02-10-2006 Based on an earlier thread ( http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/39371 ) and a suggestion I start a new post... One of my writing exercises is along the lines of re-imaging an established story in a different setting (y'know how Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST was made into FORBIDDEN PLANET) or taking established characters and re-imagining their situation (like the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA). One project I've worked for years on (meaning I pick it up from time to time and play around; I write for my own enjoyment kind of thing) is SPACE: 2099. Long story short, it's a space station (a la RAMA, if anyone knows that story) not the whole friggin' moon that gets "journeyed", etc. (I basically wanted to write a story that still included the Eagles as we know and love them). But, taking that in mind, it was commented (above thread) jokingly about Michelle Pfieffer being in SPACE: 1999. So I thought, groovy (hee hee) there's my female lead. Now, then, Forumites, cast the rest. You can take characters from year one and/or year two. I've always been stumped with a replacement for Koenig (Martin Landau) and Carter (Nick Tate). (Again, fwiw, I wasn't too crazy about the show; it was the Eagles that caught my attention. But for a writing project, it's pretty enjoyable.) Re: OT: SPACE: 2099 - rgG - 02-10-2006 What about Scott Bakula for Martin Landau's character? Just a thought. I also thought about Richard Dean Anderson, too. I Don't know who I would suggest for Nick Tate's character, it has been a looooog time since I watched the show. I really liked the character of Maya on the original show. I don't know who would be good for that role either. Re: OT: SPACE: 2099 - Zoidberg - 02-10-2006 Hmmm. I like Bakula in everything I've seen him in. That's do-able. He'd bring more compassion to the role than I remember Landau having. Would he have a good chemistry with Pfieffer? (Hey, how about Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan? They've got good chemistry.) ![]() (FWIW, picturing an actor in the role helps the writing process. You can apply mannerisms, speech patterns, etc. and it helps move things along.) Re: OT: SPACE: 2099 - Zoidberg - 02-10-2006 Maya would need to be someone fairly exotic, I would think. Similar to Catherine Schell (sp?) and her take on the character. Re: OT: SPACE: 2099 - rgG - 02-10-2006 I am really stumped in who could play Maya. That is the character I remember the most. Did you have any ideas for her character? Re: OT: SPACE: 2099 - N-OS X-tasy! - 02-10-2006 Ali Landry as Maya, assuming she can act. ![]() Re: OT: SPACE: 2099 - N-OS X-tasy! - 02-10-2006 Bakula for Koenig is a good suggestion, BTW. Re: OT: SPACE: 2099 - Paul F. - 02-10-2006 I wholeheartedly agee that the Space:1999 Eagle spacecraft NEED a better, more modern show! Those were just so cool! As for characters; I wholeheartedly DISAGREE with Richard Dean Anderson, but I do think that Scott Bakula would be an excellent actor for the role (though he doesn't look quite right). The first actor that comes to mind for Koenig is Harrison Ford... but the more I think about it, the less sure I am. I'll have to think about Maya and Carter ( Koenig's Executive Office, as I recall?). One of the secondary characters I remember (I watched the first season on DVD from Netflix last year...) is Sandra Benes (played by Zienia Merton). For some unfathomable reason, she reminds me of Lucy Liu (even though they don't look anything alike.). I think Lucy could do the role.... and look very cute at the same time. Another one I'd have to think about would be Professor Bergman. I'm currently watching (re-watching some, 1st watch of most) Star Trek Voyager, so one face that comes to mind (and an excellent acting talent) is Robert Picardo. He's younger than Barry Morse was, but he could do it. And he's no stranger to sci-fi, or to playing a doctor. I like your idea of an asteroid base rather than the moon... the moon going FTL (faster than light) was always just TOO implausible, even for science fiction). A large asteroid mining operation, perhaps, on a large asteroid like Ceres. Spin stabilized for artificial G... (Hmm.. have to do the math on how many rpm it would need for, say, 1/6 G). I'm sure I'll think of other stuff... but I'll post this thus far... Re: OT: SPACE: 2099 - PeterB - 02-10-2006 Reimagining Space: 1999, it's been thought of before... do NOT look here if you don't want to know: http://www.space1999.net/metaforms/list-quo/98325mve.htm ... my personal vote for Maya would be: Karina Lombard: http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0518312/ or if want someone younger, either: Diane Kruger (with her hair dark): http://us.imdb.com/name/nm1208167/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnx0dD0xfGZiPXV8cG49MHxrdz0xfHE9ZGlhbmUga3J1Z2VyfGZ0PTF8bXg9MjB8bG09NTAwfGNvPTF8aHRtbD0xfG5tPTE_;fc=1;ft=20 ... or if want someone *really* younger, Natalie Portman (assuming she would do it; I'm still convinced that she CAN act). Re: OT: SPACE: 2099 - Jimmypoo - 02-10-2006 This idea will go nowhere without the face that could launch a thousand space-ships. I'm speaking of, none other than.... ![]() |
