20 x 25 x 4 Air Filters for AC/Furnace.. - decocritter - 11-27-2007 I have a "special" filter that is supposed to last a year, but they don't seem to. What are they supposed to look like when they are too dirty? I want to change them properly, but not overdo it. Trion Air Bear - which no one seems to sell locally. Also for some reason these things bend when trying to get them in the holder. I just bought a Filtrete Brand They are now $29.00 at Lowes and HD, They used to be around $15-20. Re: 20 x 25 x 4 Air Filters for AC/Furnace.. - Zoidberg - 11-27-2007 I had a special similar filter for my HEPA deal on my A/C back in Louisiana, pre-Katrina. I used to order them online; a lot cheaper than local and they delivered quickly. And for the life of me I can't remember the name or find a link (well, it was over two years ago...). Find the part number on the filter and then put that in a Google search. If you don't find anything at first, put in that part number along with the word filter (e.g., "012345-ABC-678" + filter) and you'll likely find them. FWIW, I think I changed mine about four to eight times a year, if not more often. They weren't cheap, or at least they weren't as cheap as even the high-filter types you get for a regular A/C filter at the local store (i.e., anywhere from $5 to $25). But we were an active house and we kicked up a lot of dust and dander, apparently, so it got changed more often. There is an arrow on the filter (says air flow), but not on the holder. I am not sure which direction the air flows through it. On my installation the furnance is on the left, the air filter holder next, then a big tin box is next. Re: 20 x 25 x 4 Air Filters for AC/Furnace.. - Pat - 11-27-2007 Air flow is towards the furnace. Re: 20 x 25 x 4 Air Filters for AC/Furnace.. - ho'ard - 11-27-2007 [quote Pat]Air flow is towards the furnace. Or to the left in your instance. I ordered a case from these folks last year: http://www.aafilters.com/cgi-bin/quikstore.cgi?search=yes&detail=yes&product=170-102-000&category=&keywords=&hits_seen=&page=search.html&exact_match=yes 20x25x4, $78.30 for a case of 6. The order came quickly and the quality was better than expected for the price. Re: 20 x 25 x 4 Air Filters for AC/Furnace.. - decocritter - 11-27-2007 I bought a Filtrete one at Lowes. It was $29.00. I offered them the $20 they used to sell them for. They countered at $21 plus tax. I took it. I have never bargained in a retail establishment. I watched a morning show where they said to be very nice and try. I nicely told them, I did not feel like going over to Home Depot (which was out). I did not realize they were so competitive. Re: 20 x 25 x 4 Air Filters for AC/Furnace.. - decocritter - 11-27-2007 I noticed the Merv factor has gone up on some of these filters. My original was 8. The new one is 11, some on the net are higher. Re: 20 x 25 x 4 Air Filters for AC/Furnace.. - ho'ard - 11-27-2007 Follow my link and place an order! These suckers should be changed every three months, at least. Re: 20 x 25 x 4 Air Filters for AC/Furnace.. - Racer X - 11-27-2007 [quote h']Follow my link and place an order!
