Electric washer/dryer owners? - ho'ard - 11-28-2007
Anyone got completely electric stuff? I'm thinking of putting a w/d in an attic apartment and want to stop using the gas because it's tied into another meter.
Are the bills crazy? Any drawbacks?

I have had a great experience with the Whirlpool Duet set. They have a large capacity and wash better than previous conventional top loaders we have had. The washer seems to use less water too. Now, the HE detergent is vary rarely on sale. So, you do end up spending a bit more on that.

No, unless a dozen people are doing laundry. An electric dryer, along with the fridge probably uses the most electricity.
Should not the tenant be paying for it? That forces use to remain reasonable.

Guess I should have also asked-- do any of these have internal heaters, i.e. run on cold water only? I don't plan to solve the hot water problem any time soon (gas HWT presently).

I would probably have an "honor" system to handle payment, but, yes.
One of my apartments is opening up again and last time around everyone and their dog wanted in-unit laundry.

OH, hmm, I don't know of any with internal heaters. Mine just takes a hot water line. You can get inline water heaters though. We had to use one at our last office and it worked pretty well, Just an electric box that heated the water "on the fly".

It seems to wash, dry, be all electric, plus have its own internal water heater . . .

I've not seen any domestic w/ the hot water heater (just dish washers)
BTW - welcome to the MacResource Forum Brian.
The Phorum software is great and the admin's hear have taken advantage of many of the nice features.
I especially like the "new" tag on posts within the thread that haven't been viewed - a real time saver.

I find that most of the liquid detergents I see are all HE rated. I use All Free (no dye or scent) from Costco. Kirkland Signature liquid is also HE rated FWIW, and rated #2 by Consumer reports last year IIRC.
