What is this (Audio) connector called and where do I get an Adapter? - Paul F. - 11-28-2007

I have this, uh, thing...
It adapts the output of the CD player to a professional Public Address amplifier we have here at school.

Trouble is, we want to adapt the output of a Titanium Powerbook headphone jack to the same large connector, and taking this CD player stand apart isn't going to be an option.

SO... learned folks;
What is that large connector called, and who makes an adapter to go to "headphone/speaker jack" to one?

You can't see it in the picture, but there's a circuit board on the other side of the jack... so I know it's not just a plain, straight, adapter.
But I also know that SOMEONE must make one, since I have THIS one!
I just need to know that the stupid thing is called!

Many thanks!

Why are the numbers on the tag reversed ?

I left my reading glasses home , so I can't help with the photo contest.

It looks like a phono jack with a bunch of some sort of bumps on it.

might be what you are looking for.

You will still need mini-adapter for plug

Oh... hey.. just noticed that...
Probably because the photo is reversed.. I took it with my MacBooks built in camera and Photobooth. All the digital camera's are checked out to teachers right now...

That doesn't look like a three pin XLR or 1/4 inch mono nor stereo phono jack to me.

The funny bumpps look like alignment locks.

Looks like you need a 5-pin din conector.

Edit: Curses! Late again!

If you're referring to the black connector in the panel secured by the two screws, it's a DIN jack, 5-pin.

But if you're going to make an adapter, you'll need to solder, and of course know the pinout of that female jack. Seems like an odd input for a PA system to have.

It seems like a lot of older equipment had din connectors of different types (not necessarily 5-pin). kj.

Which connector are we supposed to be viewing ?
The plug on the end of the wire , or the 5 pin din jack at the bottom of the picture ?

(The numbers on the label were in the center of the picture, so it is a bit confusing)

5-Pin DIN!
That's it!

I will see if I can verify with a voltmeter which pins go where, and see if Radio Shack carries what I need to make one...

I've soldered before, and lord willing, I'll solder again... assuming I can find my soldering iron.

I even found a pin-out at Wikipedia Smile
