Any landlords out there - what service do you use for tenant screening? - SDGuy - 11-29-2007

The earlier post about credit reports http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/392384 got me thinking.
When saferent implemented its $60 annual fee, I didn't sign up, being the cheapskate that I am. I can see that in the near future, I'll have to run checks on prospective tenants - what are the alternatives to saferent - which DON'T require an annual membership fee?

my town has a local landlord's association that I will probably join. If you come up with something, please post back, as I will be looking for the same thing.

Here in So. CA, Westsiderentals.com and the likes provide free prospective tenants' credit reports to the landlords. If I was a potential tenant I would be worried if the landlord is trust-worthy.

As a small-time landlords for the past three years, we always shred the former tenants' credit reports. We had just two tenants up to now.
