Worst Visibility of any vehicle. Toyota FJ Cruiser - spearmint - 11-30-2007

Have seen several in last week and just now at the supermarket with a small lady driving. In effect driving blind. I could barely see her as I was walking nearby and just her head. Windows are way, way up there.

Yeah, I like it overall but I noticed that when I first started checking them out. Consumer Reports knocked it for that as well.

I wonder if its backup sonar is like BMW's where you get a graphical display on the dash.

Perhaps the mods can check to see if this thread was started from a New Hampshire IP?

I knew that before they published it. Toyotas with their ever-widening C pillars, are quickly ALL becoming that way.

Again, I PROPOSE that every car review or government window sticker, come with a graphing of the visibility, including what is seen in the mirrors' reflections, as taken from the driver's seat.

I've been thinking about this and have mentioned that around places in the last 6 months. Should be easy to do.

H2s and H3s are that way too.

Did anyone mention how cramped it is inside and how butt-ugly it is? Everybody wants to look like a Hummer now, except GM, and they want everything to look like a 40's Chevy panel truck....

Cruised the Toyota lot while waiting for an inspecton sticker yesterday.

Toyota is rather guilty of the "shrinking windows" design as with a lot of other makers these days.

They've done the same thing to the Rav4 and Highlander. Smaller windows.
Top of car smaller than bottom. Is that to make sure you whack your head ?
New Highlander looks better in person than pictures but I still don't like it.

The FJ designer(s) should take an old 1970 FJ40 for a ride in the woods. No trail, just the woods.

Dodge Caravan shrunk the rear window a couple years ago. Awful to back up at night in the dark.

Chrysler and Dodge have tiny windows but they are close to ground and probably cannot see overhead stoplights but this has sheet metal where the bottom of the window could be. I think it is cool looking but should have to have some visibility.

My test for driving a vehicle like this or any SUV would be a special test for the driver to prove they can safely view out of the driver's seat. In San Jose small women driving these monsters was epidemic. Probably fathers thinking they were protecting wife and family in big monster SUV. Too bad for the rest of us.

A friend had one of those things & we started calling it a Japanese Hummer.
