Advantage of dual core Macbook over plain Macbook. - spearmint - 12-02-2007 Just do simple stuff. Hardly any graphics except reducing picture storage size and iPhoto. Graphic Converter or the like for converting PDF's to Jpgs. Never understand why people send me photos in PDF of big ugly equipment that take up MB's instead of KB's. I would like to track down cheap version of XP or whatever and be able to use transfer programs for phone sim card. Maybe my ancient Casio PDA too. PC programs not available for MAC. Well why spend more money? Re: Advantage of dual core Macbook over plain Macbook. - The Grim Ninja - 12-02-2007 Where can you buy a single core Macbook? Re: Advantage of dual core Macbook over plain Macbook. - Gareth - 12-02-2007 There never was a single core ("plain"?) MacBook. There was a single core Mini. Do you mean Core 2 Duo vs. Core Duo? (And now vs. Core 2 Duo Santa Rosa) Re: Advantage of dual core Macbook over plain Macbook. - spearmint - 12-02-2007 Yes Core 2. What will I miss without it? Re: Advantage of dual core Macbook over plain Macbook. - zero - 12-02-2007 speed Re: Advantage of dual core Macbook over plain Macbook. - Panopticon - 12-02-2007 [quote zero]speed Hey, that was my answer ![]() http://www.barefeats.com/mbcd6.html CONCLUSIONS The MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo's advantage over the Core Duo version ranged from 9% to 60% depending on what app we ran. The faster core clock speed should provide an 8% advantage, so everything beyond that is "gravy." Most surprising were the significant gains with Aperture 1.5 and Photoshop CS2. Re: Advantage of dual core Macbook over plain Macbook. - spearmint - 12-02-2007 Unless difference in price is tiny Macbook Core will be sufficient. 500 mhz iBook with 368 ram has never really bothered me. I hope the two models both will run XP well. Re: Advantage of dual core Macbook over plain Macbook. - Jimmypoo - 12-02-2007 core2 is UP TO 45% faster. But if you don't have 4GB in it, (or 3.3 in CoreDuo), you probably won't notice it. Down road - full 64 bit capabilities, 4GB max RAM, newest GMA 965 chipset / x3100 graphics - those are what I'd be looking at as a comparison. Re: Advantage of dual core Macbook over plain Macbook. - mattkime - 12-02-2007 the biggest difference among macbook (pro) revisions is the amount of ram they take. the speed difference is quite minor compared to having twice as much ram. Re: Advantage of dual core Macbook over plain Macbook. - jdc - 12-02-2007 2 gigs limit in core duo |
