Why is the Canon Pixma ip4000 fetching such a high price? - Ironhorse - 12-02-2007 I bought a Canon Pixma ip 3000 and ip 4000 a year of so back for under $100.00 new. I am already bidding more than that for a used one. IronHorse Re: Why is the Canon Pixma ip4000 fetching such a high price? - iaJim - 12-02-2007 Probably for the same reason you are willing to pay more for a used one than you did for new. Now give me the answer. Re: Why is the Canon Pixma ip4000 fetching such a high price? - Kramerica - 12-02-2007 I got my 3000 for around $29 after a sale at Target and a rebate a couple years ago. Love the thing. From my understanding, Canon finally followed the ways of Epson, etc and made the new printers use "chipped" and smaller ink cartridges. These older models have dirt cheap generic inks available. I haven't personally used generics in mine - I'm still on the set that was included, but many do. Re: Why is the Canon Pixma ip4000 fetching such a high price? - Stavs - 12-02-2007 Man...maybe I should sell mine. I never use it, and its only been through one set of inks. Re: Why is the Canon Pixma ip4000 fetching such a high price? - MacArtist - 12-02-2007 The ip4000 is a great printer. Re: Why is the Canon Pixma ip4000 fetching such a high price? - josntme - 12-02-2007 I had a guy give me one because it quit working on his PC. It worked ok with my mac but I already had a IP3000. I put it on ebay and got $114.00 for it. Maybe I should sell the IP3000. I only use it for the duplex printing feature anyway. Re: Why is the Canon Pixma ip4000 fetching such a high price? - Zoidberg - 12-02-2007 Agreed; I have an iP4000 that I had up on my sales page some time ago with an "any reasonable price" tag. I wound up needing it for some photo printing when my mom visited and I discovered I really liked it. I started using it more and more (photos, labels, etc.; I have a color laser for general printing though) and then discovered I could hack it for use as a disc printer as well. (Thanks to OWC Jamie for forcing that issue.) Re: Why is the Canon Pixma ip4000 fetching such a high price? - Stavs - 12-02-2007 I dont even know why I have mine....I work for Kinko;s and get all the free color I ever need, which I dont need much. I use my trusty little HP 1012 for the majority of print duties in the house. Re: Why is the Canon Pixma ip4000 fetching such a high price? - sscutchen - 12-02-2007 We have a iP5200 that my son uses at school. We did the CD printing mod to it, which he uses a lot. It uses chipped carts, but he only goes through a couple of sets a year, so I don't see the delta cost as significant. He'll plow that difference on food over a weekend. I think that because it is such a discontinuous purchase, it seems like a bigger deal than it is. It's like folks that go cheap on tires... They save a hundred bucks or so at the time, which seems like a good thing, but then live with tires that are not as safe in an emergency maneuver or panic braking scenario... for maybe 3 years. Over that time, the difference in cost is less than a couple of extra beers and pizzas every so often. The whole concept of chipped carts pisses me off... as does having to go black market to enable CD printing on the Pixma. But that is more of a moral position. For us the financial impact is not that big of a deal when looked at over the long run. Re: Why is the Canon Pixma ip4000 fetching such a high price? - vision63 - 12-02-2007 I love mine. And I get all this ink for just $15 bucks or so ($10 dollar shipping). I can use it like a laser printer. I bought mine for just $20 dollars on an Office Depot clearance table. It had no print head, but after a call to Canon, they graciously sent me one. ![]() http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160172813488#ebayphotohosting |
