Slow drivers beware!
Oklahoma State Troopers are cracking down on motorists driving too slow in the left lane.

If they actually enforce this then the "no passing on the right" law suddenly makes sense again.

Make the Interstates autobahns and withdraw the right of states to patrol them, watch the fun.

Hi everyone,

I understand the left lane is a passing lane. In theory at least. I understand ticketing someone for driving _slower_ than the speed limit while in said lane. I also understand ticketing someone who stays in the left lane when it's passing only lane. But, overall, I'd rather see officers spend more time ticketing people driving recklessly, i.e. excessive speed, weaving in/out of lanes, tailgaiting, etc. The danger these driviers cause is definitely greater than the danger caused by someone driving more slowly. To me, going after the slower drivers is simply going after the easier target.

Agreed, and not to excuse it but many times the reckless driving is caused by people who are not following the rules in the first place.

These are also often some of the same idiots that take exits from that lane, other vehicles be damned.
They belong in the same * column as the guys weaving in and out of the other idiots.

If the weaving idiots didn't have to avoid the I don't give a damn about anybody else - me first I'm entitled and better than everybody else idiots there would be a lot less accidents.

Re: can we get this done nationwide? - Robert M - 01-11-2008

Bill,

Bull. The weaving idiots are the more flagrant violators. No doubt, they're likely to be speeding, following too closely and a host of other dangerous methods of driving. I'd rather see the police go after them instead of the individuals who are at least trying to follow the rules of the road. That said, I'll go as far to say those who are trying to follow the rules are more entitled to be on the road than those who blatantly disregard them.

Yes, the young mom smoking with a 4 year old in the back seat, travelling 64 MPH in the right light, is much more of a criminal than the * doing 64 in the left lane with 42 cars behind him for the last 18 miles on Route three headed for the Cape.
Then when the * STOPS IN THE LEFT LANE to take a right turn and has to wait for all the traffic that got in the right lane to take a right turn a MILE ago should have the right of way and not get a Darwin Award.
Right.

Bill,

You were onto something only when you got to the line about the person _stopping_ in the left lane. Up until then I was shaking my head and going "Oy!"
