Any high-bitrate Internet Radio stations that are free? - mikebw - 01-11-2008

I'm looking for a free Internet radio station that has a pretty high bitrate, over 192kbps hopefully. Any leads?

I believe that RadioParadise has a feed that is at or over 192.

could you use something like AOL radio?

no idea what the actual bit rate is, but its crystal clear even at very high volume

BTW, they have an "online" version too, just head over to the AOL website

and their music library is pretty damn good

i dig the stand alone player, wish it had more presets like the online version...

KEXP has a 1.4Mbps stream, click on the small players link.

I've never been able to get the 1.4Mbps stream to work correctly but then again haven't tried it lately. When I last tried it there was this contact "tick-tick-tick-tick" sound that made it unlistenable.

I chalked it up to crappy use of WMA but I emailed them several months ago to let them know.

AOL doesn't use high bitrate streams. But they also don't use an MP3 stream either. They use a Dolby-sourced format of some kind. Still low bitrate but sounds a bit better than you might expect.

There are many radio connections via iTunes.

How about HD radio, via a Dashboard Widget? I just started exploring this one:

JEBB --- which ones are the high bitrate streams mikebw asked about?

guitarist --- HDRadio is low bitrate, about 96kbps.

While Ibiquity doesn't actually claim the "HD" in HDRadio stands for "high definition," it's likely no coincidence they've love for the public to assume that.
