I was curious if anyone here keeps track of websites via RSS. I understand the idea but firefox's method of working with RSS seems inconvenient - each RSS feed is treated the same way as a folder of links.

I use google reader to follow a handful of blogs. It works for me.

I use firefox to track the headlines. Safari has an RSS reader built in that tracks the headline, links and synopsis as well.

Check out a real RSS reader like Vienna or NetNewsWire. Both are free.

I like using Google Reader since I use both my work computer and my home Macbook to follow my favorite websites. It's nice that since it's on the web to have to never read the same feeds twice.

I use the RSS feed in Safari. It does all I want one to do.

I think that you are not using it properly.
Try this in Firefox...
Make a new folder in the Bookmarks Toolbar Folder and call it "RSS"...
Find an web site with an RSS feed that you'd like to subscribe to...
Click on the orange RSS icon in the Address bar...
When the RSS-feed page loads, subscribe to the feed using Live Bookmarks and save the bookmark to your new RSS folder.
At that point, accessing the feed should be quick and easy from your Firefox toolbar. Much quicker and easier than using an external RSS reader.
