Followup to Chopper's weird neighbor? - Don Kiyoti - 01-15-2008 Talk of the Nation on NPR was just on here and the topic was what to do and when to call if you suspect something bad is going on with parents and children. Interesting show. It may have not yet aired in your area but I believe you can listen to all of them on NPR.org. Of course it made me think of Chopper's recent post. Re: Followup to Chopper's weird neighbor? - chopper - 01-15-2008 I haven't actually done anything other than some serious mulling. I live in a really small town and there are no anonymous or 'please keep this between us' situations regarding neighbors or children. Example: he lives across the street from a woman who works in family services at the court house--she is friends with his wife, in fact-- and I'm sure any sort of reporting would be fully exposed. Re: Followup to Chopper's weird neighbor? - Don Kiyoti - 01-15-2008 Yeah - they talk about that very problem. It's not to be taken lightly. I would think the wife's friend in Family Services would be obligated to report but maybe not. Re: Followup to Chopper's weird neighbor? - spearmint - 01-15-2008 I was appalled by Chopper's original post and think putting him on notice is the right thing to do. Otherwise no reason for him to improve. Re: Followup to Chopper's weird neighbor? - rjmacs - 01-15-2008 [quote chopper]I haven't actually done anything other than some serious mulling. This is a completely understandable concern. All the same, i think the child's safety takes precedence. Unless you are seriously concerned that reporting him might provoke violence, in which case you need to speak to the police. Either way, doing nothing is not the answer. Re: Followup to Chopper's weird neighbor? - PeterB - 01-16-2008 How about some anonymous reporting to an outside agency? Really, my only purpose here was to encourage people to listen to that segment of Talk of the Nation. |
