So, how long should it take my bank to get a phishing site taken down? - ho'ard - 01-16-2008 Received a fairly decent e-mail with a link to supposedly one of my banks: http://www.hacumessagecenter.org Normally I'd say you'd have to be kind of dumb to fall for this, however this bank has proven that they'd be dumb enough to actually send such an e-mail and have such a horrible login interface. So, big bold alert on the real site: http://www.hacu.org But, shouldn't it be possible to get this page taken down right away? Whois shows they used Yahoo to register (the contact phone for Mary the domain owner goes to a Urologist). Plus it takes some time for DNS caches around the world to clear it from their records. Banks have a great deal of influence in society but they don't control the interweb. If you're concerned about phishing exploits then i recommend that you run firefox. i've clicked on urls for phishing attempts and its always presented me with a very stern warning. I am concerned that many people will fall for this.
