Leopard and Repair Permissions errors? - yeoman - 01-16-2008 I'm playing around with Leopard but haven't really made the leap of faith from Tiger yet. But I did find some nasties which made me go back to Tiger for a while longer. One issue - I did an install of 10.5 and ran Repair Permissions. No problems. Then did an update to 10.5.1 and got a load of RP errors. Second issue - I tried using SuperDuper but couldn't boot from the copied volume - I guess I'll wait for Leopard compatibility. Comments? Re: Leopard and Repair Permissions errors? - Anthony - 01-16-2008 RP works, it just takes a REALLY long time for some reason. Re: Leopard and Repair Permissions errors? - RAMd®d - 01-16-2008 RP works, it just tells you things you don't need to know, making your think it isn't working. Re: Leopard and Repair Permissions errors? - swampy - 01-16-2008 Repairing permissions in Leopard has some real issues. It can take HOURS when done with disk utility. Over on the Apple discussion boards the recommend using the terminal and typing the command "sudo diskutil repairpermissions /" (without the quotes). Enter your login pass word and let it run. Just minimise the terminal window and go about your business. I did this (and I'm scared to death of the terminal) and it only took 10 or so minutes. All the error messages (SUID?) are normal until Apple gets this fixed. Re: Leopard and Repair Permissions errors? - SKYLANE - 01-16-2008 I am running Leopard, RP only a few minutes at most with Disk Utility. Most of the time though, pretty quick. |
