You are going to be able to check retail store availability for the Macbook Air online just like with the iPhone:
"The world's thinnest notebook is coming.
MacBook Air will be available at Apple Retail Stores soon. Check back for the most up-to-date in-store availability."

I know several people who have been waiting 10+ years for this from Apple, and as long as they haven't totally given up on the idea I bet they will be first in line. Hopefully Apple can meet demand and discourage scalpers like they did with the iPhone.

Big difference in forking over $400 and $1800 when buying in quantity.
I think scalpers will be few and far between.
