They better not screw this up. I depend upon MySQL for ALOT of things. Music, phone, MSDS, HelpDesk software, the list goes on and on.

MySQL is the workhorse of the internet. Millions of websites are built on LAMP installations.

Woa. I hadn't thought of that. That could have been disaster. Maybe it was a pre-emptive strike to keep the software open and available. I wouldn't be surprised if Google is pulling the strings trying to get this stuff secured and distributed amongst Microsofts various competitors. Google has contributed enormously to the source code for MySQL. Although this article needs to be taken with a lump of salt, it has some interesting points.
