All I can say is, thank heavens for PBS... - PeterB - 01-24-2008 ... with the writers' strike, it seems this is about only the watchable thing on TV! All these reality shows really bite (no pun intended)... am I the only one who can't stand this stuff? Re: All I can say is, thank heavens for PBS... - Paul F. - 01-24-2008 NO... you're not the only one. I've been catching up on some Star Trek re-runs... quite happily so. I refuse to watch any show which is advertised with any of the following; "Extreme" "Uncensored" (they never are, anyway...) "Reality" "Raw" "Uncut" "Real {insert noun}" And I hit the "Thumbs Down" button on my Tivo as the only tangible measure of my displeasure... Re: All I can say is, thank heavens for PBS... - MacMagus - 01-24-2008 New Mythbusters 2nite. Watching now. Re: All I can say is, thank heavens for PBS... - mattkime - 01-24-2008 i always feel that way. while you're enjoying PBS, donate. Re: All I can say is, thank heavens for PBS... - M A V I C - 01-24-2008 I didn't really watch the networks much before anyway. We only have basic cable, so we record Discovery channel stuff we want to see, and watch it later. Last night DSC switched up their lineup, so what recorded was wrong. We ended up watching commercials for the first time in a long time. I just can't imagine how much of one's life is wasted watching commercials. If you watch an hour of TV a day, there's 15-20 minutes worth of commercials. Five days a week, 50 weeks a year... That's over 80hrs of commercials a year. After 60 years, that's over 200 days. And some people watch a lot more TV than that. At minimum wage (here) that's over $80/mo lost. Re: All I can say is, thank heavens for PBS... - PeterB - 01-24-2008 I wonder how the Nielsens are doing. Paul, you're reminding me ... I should really dig out some of my DVD's. Anything is better than this dreck. Yes, time to make a PBS donation. The only reason I haven't yet, is that PBS is the only OTA broadcast that I'm having trouble with the DTV ... probably just a matter of repositioning my antenna. Re: All I can say is, thank heavens for PBS... - Paul F. - 01-24-2008 Mavic; I solved that... I hardly EVER watch "live" TV anymore... Tivo.. Hit "Pause" when a show starts for 30 minutes, and then use 30 second skip or fast forward for the commercials. By the time you catch up with "realtime", you're at the end of a 1hour show. I only see commercials when I'm watching TV in my office, which is piped from my Tivo, but I can't use the remote from here... Re: All I can say is, thank heavens for PBS... - OWC Jamie - 01-24-2008 even the news sucks oh wait, that sucked even before the strike awful lot of wwii nazi incinerator stuff lately though. I had enough of that a long time ago. Re: All I can say is, thank heavens for PBS... - ho'ard - 01-24-2008 [quote PeterB]... with the writers' strike, it seems this is about only the watchable thing on TV! All these reality shows really bite (no pun intended)... am I the only one who can't stand this stuff? So what are you watching right now? Re: All I can say is, thank heavens for PBS... - Gabacho - 01-24-2008 Fipping channels I saw a bit of this. They are truly mentally deranged. |
