There wasn't a C2D 1.8ghz machine. I'd call hat an issue.

doing it yourself isn't much harder than upgrading the hard drive. the hardest part is finding a replacement optical drive. i think my sis recently bought one from powerbook medic for about $200.

i ask because of a local craigslist mbp for sale. i should have realized that 1.83 was a 1st gen mbp. turns out the owner's 3yr old shoved 2 cds into the optical drive and they won't come out.

still, i could use a mbp because of the express slot.

thanks in advance to anyone who has a thought about a 1st gen mbp.

(or how to get the stuck cds out of the optical drive!)

You might be able to get the CDs out. Most of the time you can disassemble the drives and if you are a little handy even put them back together. It will require some small screwdrivers and a torx or a hex head I believe.

The real question is, did having 2 CDs in there bend or wreck something permanently.
