mbp core duo 1.8 optical drive issues? - robfilms - 01-24-2008 are there any mbp core duo 1.8 optical drive issues? what is the cost of replacing the drive in a mbp w/o applecare? thanks in advance be well rob (cris- thanks for the info. u r right. edited the error) Re: mbp c2d 1.8 optical drive issues? - C(-)ris - 01-24-2008 There wasn't a C2D 1.8ghz machine. I'd call hat an issue. Re: mbp c2d 1.8 optical drive issues? - mattkime - 01-24-2008 doing it yourself isn't much harder than upgrading the hard drive. the hardest part is finding a replacement optical drive. i think my sis recently bought one from powerbook medic for about $200. Re: mbp core duo 1.8 optical drive issues? - robfilms - 01-24-2008 i ask because of a local craigslist mbp for sale. i should have realized that 1.83 was a 1st gen mbp. turns out the owner's 3yr old shoved 2 cds into the optical drive and they won't come out. still, i could use a mbp because of the express slot. thanks in advance to anyone who has a thought about a 1st gen mbp. (or how to get the stuck cds out of the optical drive!) be well rob Re: mbp core duo 1.8 optical drive issues? - C(-)ris - 01-24-2008 You might be able to get the CDs out. Most of the time you can disassemble the drives and if you are a little handy even put them back together. It will require some small screwdrivers and a torx or a hex head I believe. The real question is, did having 2 CDs in there bend or wreck something permanently. Re: mbp core duo 1.8 optical drive issues? - robfilms - 01-25-2008 chris- so how tuff to swap out the optical drive? mattkime says its $200+ w/sweat equity. what would it be if i sent it to apple? (ballpark figure is fine) any and all thoughts would be great. be well rob [quote C(-)ris]You might be able to get the CDs out.
