WiFi question - Fritz - 01-27-2008 could a regular ethernet wireless router be used with an older (wireless unequipped) iMac to access wifi? In other words, the iMac would be a guest on my existing wifi. Re: WiFi question - jimbrady - 01-27-2008 Yes. Re: WiFi question - testcase - 01-27-2008 I believe so. I'd plug the router into the G4 ethernet port and then check the System Profiler and System Preferences. Re: WiFi question - Gareth - 01-27-2008 Not necessarily. It sounds like you want to use the router as a wireless bridge to connect your iMac to your current WiFi network. Not all routers support this. What you want is more commonly referred to as a wireless gaming adapter. Re: WiFi question - kj4btkljv - 01-27-2008 This Linksys Ethernet to Wireless bridge works just fine: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1134692497433&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=9743339789B09 Jeff Re: WiFi question - Fritz - 01-27-2008 ah, thanks for the clarification of the bridge concept. My Belkin F5D7230-4 supports it, but only with another of the same router. badda binG! |
