I've always heard the best time to buy a tv is right before the Superbowl. Is that still true? I'm not in the market but my brother may be. Anyone find any great deals?

I always thought it was a week or two afterwards when the inventory which did not sell before gets marked down.

I have no proof other than "it's what 'they' say", but I heard something similar to JoeH:
Demand goes down with the same supply just after the SuperBowl; you get lower prices.
or
Due to expected demand, prices are held artificially high until after the SuperBowl.
I have no idea if these have any basis in fact or not.

Yes, this is your best week to buy, until next week.
Prices seem low now b/c stores need to get rid of last years models. The discounts you see are based on the original MSRP back from last March. When the '08 models come out in March the MSRPs will be around what "sale" prices are right now.

I purchased an LCD TV two weeks before Christmas. The price then was hundreds less than I can find now for the same model.

I think the best time to buy new was Black Friday. You might find a cheaper price next week - but it may be a Christmas or Super Bowl open box return.

I've been seeing coupons in Costco and NewEgg emails for a few hundred to several hundred off LCD and Plasma TVs.

this has been true since electronics were invented. Never gonna stop. You will say the same thing 6 months from now. Have you even bought anything?
