Late to the party. (or why did I wait so long to discover Arrested Development?) - wurm - 01-27-2008

A couple of months ago on a whim, I decided to borrow the first season DVDs of Arrested Development from the local library, just to see what all the buzz was about. Oh. My. Gawd. I don't remember the last time I laughed so loud at a TV show. The casting, the writing, everything is just so far above most of the dreck which drove me away from regular TV. And now I'm getting depressed because I'm about halfway through the third and final season! Are there more shows this good that I'm missing?

Don't be depressed, it's just as funny watching it a second time. Also, there is talk of a movie. Jason Bateman has mentioned it a few times, and seems to really want to do it. Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Larry Sanders Show are great too, but I've never seen a show that had as many well-written jokes per episode as Arrested Development. Freaks and Geeks is another great show, and NBC screwed that up.

Yeah. We coulda used your voice when it was "show savin' time." Hey, I liked Freaks and Geeks too.

What's Arrested Development about?

I was a fan of both Arrested Development and Freaks and Geeks... other shows that have that same flavor (to me)

Curb Your Enthusiasm

It's always Sunny in Philadelphia (took awhile to grow on me, but liking it)

Sons and Daughters (from 2006, legal issues with music licensing are making it difficult to go to DVD)

[quote ztirffritz]What's Arrested Development about? FROM IMDB>:
"Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman), a widower with a 13-year-old son, named George-Michael (Michael Cera), is forced to keep his large and dysfunctional family together after his father (Jeffery Tambor) is arrested for shifty accounting practices at the family-owned conglomerate and the Bluth family assets are frozen, making each member of the eccentric family panic. Michael's snobbish mother, Lucille (Jessica Walter), finds herself living alone in a penthouse without the financial means to maintain it, while Michael's two brothers, GOB (Will Arnett) and Buster (Tony Hale), and his sister Lindsay (Portia DeRossi) with her husband Tobias (David Cross) and her daughter Mae (Alia Shawkat) also find themselves having to recreate their lifestyles to fit their new financial status."

Another one of my favorites was Mr. Show starring David Cross, aka Tobias Fünke.

Mr. Show was FANTASTIC! I had a roommate in college who got me hooked on that.
