Can I install Windows XP to bootcamp from reinstall disk? - davester - 03-01-2008

I have an old Compaq laptop that has crapped out. I still need to use Win XP for very occasional use of one program. Is it possible to use the Windows XP SP2 install disk from the dead machine to put Windows XP on a Macbook under bootcamp, or does microsoft copy protection stop that?

there may be some sort of BIOS or hardware check for the OS disk to make sure it is being used on a Compaq laptop. Usually the case with factory PC disks.

I have the same question, but I've got a feeling it won't work. Otherwise, couldn't someone install the same copy of XP on multiple computers?
