I am eyeing that same deal... although I would rather spring for a Pro after
my tax refund gets here. Those 24's sure are purty tho.

"Limited Time Special Price"---Will the price be even lower after the new Penryn based iMacs are released next week?

$2052 after tax isnt bad It isn't, but $2199 for a quad core 2.8 Mac Pro from Macconnection is where my money would go. Only $147 more and a whole lot more giddy-up and expandability for the dollar.

But let's face, I wouldn't exactly be in tears if I had either one. Heck, I still have lots of love for my DP 1.8Ghz G5 Powermac. :-)

true -- if you need that -- but then add $700+ for a nice 24" monitor

and the imacs are near 90% as fast as the towers

i got rid of my G5 towers for AL iMacs -- their performance is amazing, and with FW 800 drives, fast storage is easy

i figure i will spend $1700 now for a 24" imac that might last 4 years, then $1700 then for another 4 years, etc -- rather than $3400 now on something that has to last 8 years...

and the imacs are near 90% as fast as the towers I already have a nice monitor set-up so that saves me a nice stack of cash Smile. The 2.8 iMac, while no slouch, takes a pretty good kicking even from the 4 core 2.8Ghz tower in an early test over on Barefeats. But a lot of that depends on what kind of things you want to do. For me, the tower shines in a lot more places than the iMac.

Wonder if new models on the horizon.

We had just purchased some of the 2.4GHz refurb MacBook Pros - Apple was nice enough to give us $450 back per with the new 2.4GHz models costing $100 less than the refurbs were.

That said - the refurbs are faster with their 4MB of Shared L2 Cache vs. the new $1999 2.4GHz that has only 3MB of shared. Makes a real world difference.

Now the $2499 base new MacBook Pro has 6MB of L3 cache as well as the 512MB VRAM...

Anyway... iMac updates can't be far off.
