Can't believe Ebay buyer's stupidity - samintx - 03-01-2008

I was driving to a movie today...and Kim Komando was on. A lady called. Had purchased Quicken from a seller in HUNGARY. It was for a DOWNLOAD ! ! ! of the program.

Her husband said "take it off the computer" but the wife said "it seems to work" She called Kim to see what to do. Kim said the obvious...could have embedded links to personal info, etc etc.....

Well, the wife was reluctant but said she would take it off. (She paid about 1/4 what Quicken retails for...but Quicken is always on sale, lady)

I cannot believe it is legal for an individual to do this...It has to be pirated software she was downloading....and who would download from Houston or Hungary ANYWAY!!!

There is one born every minute. I think EBAY should have their bottom slapped for allowing this to go on.

I thought people usually complain about Ebay policing auctions too much???

While I do agree, Ebay should take necessary precautions to make sure auctions are legit, they will never be successful at catching all the scam artists out there.

I'm not one to defend Ebay by any means, auctions are pulled (for being fraudulent, etc) all the time.

In this case, I truly believe people should try using a little more common sense when buying things (ANYWHERE...Ebay, online, in b&m stores, etc). Goes back to the old saying, "if it sounds to good to be true..."

Should Ebay be held accountable for all of the, sadly, clueless, common-senseless people out there?

Quick search shows a lot of software being sold with 'Digital delivery'.
Here's Quicken listed as "Located in Hungary" http://search.ebay.com/ws/search/SaleSearch?sofocus=bs&satitle=Quicken&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC5&fbd=1&dfsp=1&from=R6&nojspr=y&pfid=0&fswc=1&few=&saprclo=&saprchi=&fss=0&saslop=1&sasl=&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D0&fls=3&salic=93&saatc=1&sadis=200&fpos=&fsct=&sacur=0&sacqyop=ge&sacqy=&sabfmts=0&saobfmts=exsif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&sabdlo=&sabdhi=&saaff=afdefault&afcj=&afmp=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&fcl=3&frpp=50

Sadly, fleabay's focus is on collecting revenue, not policing sellers.

Thanks for the search. I was going to get around to searching...you know the downloads are breaking copyright laws....Aren't they?

To check millions of new auctions everyday, ebay would need to hire tens of 1000s for the job. It's impossible...
