The tone and language of many recent posts is horrible. - JJ - 05-04-2008

Anyone can have a bad day, but a few people seem to be taking liberties with the rules around here.

Can't we simply agree to disagree without resulting to name calling and chest beating?

Was a vacuum created when elmo3 left?

It hadn't escaped my notice either JJ.

Just glad to see that most of the personal insults are being pulled fairly quickly.

Recent posts? Been an issue for a while. I report posts, cite the specific rule a given post is violating and hope it gets pulled. Often it doesn't. Sometimes posts that didn't seem to violate any rules get yanked.

But really that's just the result of a bigger problem. Many of the most knowledgeable and experienced posters don't frequent here anymore. The signal to noise ratio seems to be worsening.

That's just my opinion. I've been coming here less and less. From people insulting deceased without any facts to support it, to blatant personal attacks on other forum members, this place isn't as enjoyable and informative as it once was.

MAVIC,

I don't think posters need to be knowledgeable or experienced in order to be civil.

Also, it appears that some of the name calling is coming from knowledgeable and experienced posters.

Noticed a lot of it recently at the other forum too, where some regulars seem to feel that it's their job to respond to every post, and when it's from a first time poster (usually a very confused new Mac user) they resort to insults and not even address the question. And to be fair, Elmo3's responses to some of those threads have been some of the most helpful.

They must be getting pulled very quickly, because I haven't seen anything questionable in quite a while.

This issue of bad behavior has been a problem since way before this forum was even started.

Maybe it's just spring fever? Too much testosterone in the air? Male PMS (I only say male since most posters here aren't female)?

Definitely a long-standing problem.

I take back what I said. I just noticed one of the threads in question. I doesn't surprise me at all that it often seems to be the same culprit.

Hold on a moment. Let me check my spelling before I submit this post. Okay. I'm all set.

I think it's more of an ego than testosterone.
