TiBook External Drive Connection - mrlynn - 05-05-2008
The TiBook (which I gave to my son) has only Firewire 400 and a USB 1.0 ports. The cheaper external HDs are mostly USB 2.0. Will these perform adequately attached to the TiBook? Would a Firewire 800/400 drive be appreciably better?

There was this thread the other day comparing FW400 to USB 2.0 on the same drive, with FW400 being the winner, and USB 1.x will be even slower.

A lot might really depend on what it's going to be used for. Maybe a bigger internal drive would be a solution (can support 120GB).

i wouldn't recommend a usb drive with that machine unless you're moving tiny files.

Don't forget the PCMCIA slot. I have two Ti 'books still in use, and a card like one of these can really add function to an older laptop. USB 2.0 AND Firewire.
