Need help making a quick web page - CharlieStango - 05-05-2008 I have a domain name at Godaddy and I just need to post a single page with contact info on it. What would be the easiest way to go about doing something like this? I have never posted a site or worked with domain names before. Is there a way to use iweb but not use a .mac address? TIA Re: Need help making a quick web page - clay - 05-05-2008 I think godaddy might have a free "sitebuilder" tool included with their domains. Not much flexibility in terms of layout/graphics, but should be enough to get you started, especially if you don't have other web hosting arranged. there are apps. that allow you to use iweb and other servers--search macupdate or versiontracker for "iweb", and I'm sure you'll come up with several solutions. good luck Re: Need help making a quick web page - jdc - 05-05-2008 iweb is easy, might take 10 minutes -- and yes, iweb has never required .mac to use it -- so go for it Re: Need help making a quick web page - Grumpyguy - 05-05-2008 NVU or Kompozer, upload with Cyberduck Re: Need help making a quick web page - JEBB - 05-05-2008 Go to Google Pages and you can create simple web pages without knowing or using HTML. They host the sites for free. You must create a gmail account and use Firefox browser; it doesn't work with Safari. Re: Need help making a quick web page - Chupa Chupa - 05-05-2008 Wordpress.com. 100% free and easy to set up. Technically it's for blogging but will work for what you want as well. If you already have .Mac you can just set up a site on .Mac. Once you have a wordpress or .mac site ready then you can forward your new Go Daddy domain: To use your domain just log into your godaddy account. In the setup panel domains -> My domains -> click on domain name -> Click on "domain not forwarded" -> enable forwarding and cut and past the .mac web address in the "forward to" box. -> click on the moved permanently circle. Done. Logout. Re: Need help making a quick web page - what4 - 05-05-2008 If Godaddy has its own free site creator, that is clearly the No. 1 choice for ease of use. Otherwise, I second Google Pages for a quick, nice page for a beginner. It's easy. Here's the learning curve: you have to copy the code and upload it to your site via some free FTP program like Cyberduck. You just can't avoid learning the FTP stuff, so do it. Also, for a page with just a few words on it, NVu (Kompozer, Seamonkey are almost indistinguishable) is excellent. If you take a few deep breaths and face it, you can set up one of those to FTP ("publish") directly to your site. The directions are a tad uneven, but it works. And, easiest method of all -- take a friend to lunch who knows how to do this. In 15 minutes, he can have a page up for you and show you how in the process. Re: Need help making a quick web page - onthedownlow - 05-06-2008 GoDaddy does have a site creator for making several pages quick and easy, so log into your account and you should be up and running in just 5 or 10 minutes. |
