Priority Mail Tracking enough? - graylocks - 05-06-2008 i have to send my heart rate monitor in for repair. it's about an $80 item. do you think priority mail tracking is sufficient or should i go through the slightly more hassle of getting it to UPS or FedEx? Re: Priority Mail Tracking enough? - macbeergeek - 05-06-2008 I think the only kind of "tracking" that you get free with Priority Mail is Delivery Confirmation, which will just tell you that it got there. If you want more comprehensive tracking, the yes, go with UPS or FedEx. Re: Priority Mail Tracking enough? - Chupa Chupa - 05-06-2008 Priority Mail tracking is a joke and no insurance is included, so even if it does get lost, so what, you aren't going to recoop anything. I'd send it FedEx Ground if only for the free $100 insurance. Re: Priority Mail Tracking enough? - mattkime - 05-06-2008 >>Priority Mail tracking is a joke and no insurance is included you could pay the $1.50 for insurance. I think the USPS is fine even if tracking is a bit weak. Re: Priority Mail Tracking enough? - TheTominator - 05-06-2008 [quote macbeergeek]I think the only kind of "tracking" that you get free with Priority Mail is Delivery Confirmation, which will just tell you that it got there. Delivery Confirmation is as described, but it isn't free. It is a distinct service that costs close to $1. Sometimes it provides more than just the endpoint delivery information. It depends on whether or not it is scanned at additional places along the route. The only thing that is guaranteed is the delivery scan. If you are concerned about the item being lost, you might want to pay for a little insurance. I know UPS offers insurance. I don't remember if the USPS provides that service. Re: Priority Mail Tracking enough? - C(-)ris - 05-06-2008 By the time you add the $1.50 for insurance on to the $4.55 base you might as well have sent it UPS. Re: Priority Mail Tracking enough? - richorlin - 05-06-2008 Send it USPS insured and you get tracking included. Collecting on a lost item is aq hassle with _all_ the carriers. Go with whichever is cheaper and more convenient. Of course, UPS and FEDEX have better tracking on line, but if it gets lost, it doesn't matter how detailed the tracking was, it's still lost. Re: Priority Mail Tracking enough? - MacManMaz - 05-06-2008 for about 2 dollars more USPS priority mail has signature required. It will tell you the day and person signing at the receiving end. I've used it a couple of times and it worked great, areal advantage to have that info when dealing with customer service. I think the USPS is fine even if tracking is a bit weak. Rip Van Winkle, hate to say that insurance on $80 is $2.05 at the USPS these days. It hasn't be $1.05 for years. Put that with the Priority Mail rate + Delivery Confirmation (not included w/ insurance) and its usually MORE expensive than FedEx Ground with worse tracking. Plus if you've ever tried to make a lost parcel claim with USPS you know you'll be 105 before you get your claim settled. Re: Priority Mail Tracking enough? - thermarest - 05-06-2008 I personally don't worry about insurance or tracking on most things. $2 to insure an $80 item is too much....2.5% of the value. USPS loses WAY fewer packages than that statistically. And anecdotally I've never had anything lost or damaged by them. I use USPS because the PO is convenient for me and UPS dropoff is not. |
