More Mini Drama - chopper - 05-06-2008 My intel Mini is again giving me headaches. It has 10.5 on it and now, suddenly, it crashes out every time I launch ichat, software update or Yahoo messenger or iTunes and any other myriad of programs. Firefox does launch and run as does Safari. I've run disc utility on the drive a bunch of times, fixed permissions and etc. All with no change. Any ideas? Here's what the crash report stated after the last program tossed its cookies: Process: Software Update [158] Path: /System/Library/CoreServices/Software Update.app/Contents/MacOS/Software Update Identifier: com.apple.SoftwareUpdate Version: ??? Reset PRAM? Try Applejack? Re: More Mini Drama - RAMd®d - 05-06-2008 Does it do the same with a new user? Re: More Mini Drama - Filliam H. Muffman - 05-06-2008 Have you started in Safe Mode? Re: More Mini Drama - chopper - 05-06-2008 Tried a new user account and iChat crashed right away. I'll go in on single user mode now and try and use Applejack. Re: More Mini Drama - chopper - 05-06-2008 Well, now when I start the computer up the fan blows hard and never turns off. Ugh Re: More Mini Drama - kj4btkljv - 05-06-2008 I don't know the background story on your Mini, but did you, or Apple, install anything CTO/BTO or after the initial purchase? Maybe the RAM isn't seated tightly enough, airport card or bluetooth card might not be snug. The hard drive cable might be split or pinched. Etc, etc, etc. Here's Google's results on that EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP) error: http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=EXC_BREAKPOINT+(SIGTRAP)&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 Jeff Re: More Mini Drama - ajakeski - 05-07-2008 Sounds like file corruption. A fresh install of OSX should fix it. That is if the drive isn't bad or on it's way out. Re: More Mini Drama - Sam3 - 05-07-2008 [quote chopper]Well, now when I start the computer up the fan blows hard and never turns off. Ugh Sounds like the temperature sensing cable has come undone from it's connector. The cable is located in the front of the mini, between the two clips: ![]() When I reassembling my newly upgraded mini, I forgot about that cable and the fan did exactly like you describe. I also concur with your RAM maybe not being seated properly..My mini would exhibit erratic behavior, the most consistent being random reboots. It turned out that I had a bad RAM chip. |
