a fee for an online reservation? - kap - 05-07-2008

I have done quite a few online hotel reservations but last weekend I got a surprise while checking my bank statement online: a $10 charge from ihsadvantage.com. I did not see that coming. May be it was an oversight. Is this a normal fee for such a thing?

No. You should call your credit card company and contest the charge. ihsadvantage.com is owned by some guy sitting at a kitchen table in Springfield, MO. Google it and you will see.

Booking fees are not uncommon (but should be disclosed). Shatner's faithful sidekick "NoFee" comes to mind Big Grin

I don't know if I can contest the charge since I used my debit card :-( lesson learn always use a credit card for any type of online purchase. As you can tell I am not keen on a credit card usage.

Just got a response from the customer services. It suggest me to go through the process of reserving a room so I will see the fee notice somewhere along the way. I 'pose I must have missed it in a hurry to book a room at the last minute for a family member. Oh, well, LIVE AND LEARN.

Book through orbitz, expedia or travelocity and there is a fee tacked on.

Allegiant Airlines charges $10 for any reservation not made directly at it's airport counter. The also charge for any checked bags, seat selection, etc.. (Their fees are so low, it's worth it).

I just flew them to Orlando. They are a little nickel and dimeish, but overall it was cheaper than the rest. I also hate that they dont have automated checkin...you actually have to wait in line to deal with a human. Flight was enjoyable though and I would happily fly them again.

Debit card users have the SAME rights as credit card users. Yes, you can dispute a charge you didn't make.
