Kodak's FIRST digital camera - D-Rod - 05-07-2008

Wow, that is way older than I would have thought.

Kodak’s first digital camera, circa 1975, was a real clunker

Whoa!

With a CASSETTE TAPE drive too!

I remember using one of those on my Commodore 128! Didn't work real well, but I used it!

Oddly enough, it was a Consumer Reports Best Buy.

Back then they were called "point and shoot and replace the cassette" Failed in the marketplace due to lack of catchy name.

I don't dee the merit of a digital picture without computers.

It does use a computer to show the image. Check the link above.

Re: Kodak's FIRST digital camera - GGD - 05-07-2008

This technology had to start somewhere. 20 years later here's what they were producing.

Around that same time in the mid 70s, in college I was playing around with a digital video camera (B/W only). The camera was quite a bit smaller than that and was much faster (no cassettes), but also required a large mini-computer. I wrote software to record video to reels of 9-track tape and play it back to a digital CRT display that we also had. I still have a low quality print of me taken with that camera.
