Folding questions again - voodoopenguin - 05-07-2008 Having seen a topic or two recently about folding I realised that after moving to my present Mac I hadn't restarted my own folding. I also appear to had either lost or forgotten what the programs are called that I used. I went to VersionTracker and entered 'folding' then downloaded 'folding@home' which immediately found all my old info with my name (voodoopenguin) and the team of 38910. So far so good but now some questions. I have a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo so is the program 'folding@home' the best program to use as Activity Monitor shows that I am only using one processor? If there is another program I should be using can it run at the same time while the current protein finishes or can the current protein be transferred to the new program or should I wait for this one to finish then start the next protein with the new program? I seem to recall that I could look up the value of my protein somewhere but where? I've found that I can access some of my statistics by clicking on My Statistics in folding@home but i seem to remember another site that gave more detail. Where is that? That's it for now. Re: Folding questions again - Harbourmaster - 05-07-2008 You can use one of the beta products from Stanford that supports SMP , this one should do it : Mac OS X (Intel) SMP OS X 10.4+ 6.10 beta2 http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download Or you could use Increase to get both Cores folding but I have had a lot of trouble with Increase lately and have been going with the official clients from Stanford for better reliability... YMMV http://calxalot.net/InCrease/ Re: Folding questions again - JoeH - 05-07-2008 You can go here, http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/fahproject, and enter the unit number to get a description. Points and deadline information is usually available. There is also a table of current projects, http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html. The descriptions for all projects can be found here, http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/allprojects. Re: Folding questions again - voodoopenguin - 05-08-2008 Thank you. I will give Increase a go but will take heed of the warning. I did find where to get the protein description but my present one comes up with 'This Folding@Home project is new!' and has no more details. Re: Folding questions again - AllGold - 05-09-2008 Click on my sig. The forums there have lots of information about Folding on a Mac. |
