Muffman - 05-08-2008 It would be more but a bunch of stores sold out and can not get more stock until next week, but there are other chains that have stock on the shelf. You know the game looks like fun, and I have played some of the previous ones in the series on my friend's PS2 and Xbox, but I just can't justify putting in that much time in a game like this. Maybe I have too much else going on in my life, other interests. I mean I really like video games, I have played a lot in my lifetime, but I just can't do it anymore. This has nothing to do with this game in particular, but I have to wonder how the world would be different if, instead of gaming so much, people got out and did something more productive with their time. I hear ya...I am currently playing Oblivion all the way through (for the 4th time). I have 4 kids (who play sports, take music lessons, go to the mall with friends...etc). I just get up an hour ealy and play it while I have my morning coffee. Friends think I am nuts...these are the same people who get up an hour early to read the morning paper (?). I usually have very full weekends so the only game time I get is when it's raining. My daughter has, on a rainy saturday, proclaimed it "Fat Guy On the Couch Video Game Day" several times....and she usually wants to take me on in Medal of Honor (she's a natural born sniper....hard to beat her). We have several "family" games that all of us play together. I used to think "man, I am just wasting time here. Should I be doing something else?" then I found out it's just another way I can link up with my kids. They, and all thier friends, think it's cool that I not only KNOW a lot about the games they are playing but that I can actually PLAY them pretty good. So...it balances. I get my game time, it rarely conflicts with outdoor or family time, and I have another avenue of discussion with my kids. GTA IV is hot at the house right now, but Guitar Heroe's runs a close second. Don't get me started about DDR (Dance Dance Revolution). If you have never sat behind someone while they play you do not know how much fun you can have just spectatin'. But yeah...you got to spend some time smelling the roses (and mulching them, and trimming them.) ![]() Jay Re: Grand Theft Auto IV tops $500 million in first-week sales - mikebw - 05-09-2008 You sir have found a delicate balance, congratulations on that. I think social gaming is becoming a very big deal now. The Wii has made gaming more accessible for people of all ages, and games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are fantastic group / party games, as well as DDR. So we both know the positive side of gaming, but I personally have been the negatives. I have a friend who for the last 2 years has been very much addicted to WoW (world of warcraft). So much that he lost a job over it and almost a few friends. I'm sure he has made new friends through the game, but I don't think it's healthy. |
